Outdoor Team Skills Development
As well as running team building programs, Cumulus also provides team skills programs to enable team members and prospective team members to develop their understanding of how teams work, how to function within in a team and how to help develop and enhance the team. We find that developing team skills within people requires a lot of practical, hands-on and varied team working experiences, sensitive and effective feedback for individuals as well as periods of personal reflection.
Programs involve team members considering various issues and abilities revolving around key topics:
Self Awareness: Team skills programs help team members to develop an enhanced understanding of how they feel about being in a team, their abilities, what they consider to be their team strengths and weaknesses and how they influence the behaviours (positively and negatively) of other team members. We find this helps individuals to have a greater sense of 'where they are' and 'where they want to be', offering a sense of direction and purpose to their own development.
Communication: The team skills programs that are run by Cumulus Outdoor Events spend considerable amounts of time addressing individual communication issues. We find that a lot of team issues tend to centre around communication issues so we feel time spent on considering how people communicate in teams is time well spent. Team members obtain feedback and training on how they communicate and how they respond to other people's communications. Participants look at all aspects of the communication cycle and how they perform in each area, not just in what they say, but when they say it, the environment they are communicating in, who they are talking to and how they listen.
Interpersonal Strengths: Team members have the opportunity to consider their interpersonal skills and how to improve them. How they work with other team members, how they deal with disagreements and how to ask for help and respond to other people's requests. Team members will develop a better understanding of accepted and effective team behaviours as well as how to develop rapport between team members.
Organisational Understanding: Team skill programs help team members to improve their abilities to take an active part in team organisational issues such as dealing with time pressures, planning workloads and responsibilities. Programs allow team members to experience differing situations and practice (with positive feedback) techniques to enhance the effectiveness of working teams.
Individuals have the opportunity to develop within a supportive participants and trainer network to enhance their team skills. At the end of each program, team members will have an understanding of how they can further develop and where they can obtain extra support and assistance through their own organisation.
