Outdoor Communication Skills Training Programmes

Cumulus delivers communication skills training programs to enable team members and leaders to enhance their levels of communication skills. We use the outdoors as well as alternative cultural environments as a basis for participants to experience and practice with a range of skills, learning from each other, themselves, those they come into contact with during the course and program tutors. Key communication skills are developed by using sound methodology and learning techniques combined with practical experience of communicating with others to achieve various goals.

Communication programs using the outdoors and alternative cultures address key communication issues and focus on core competencies, all revolving around the communication process and the barriers that tend to arise. Learning objectives on communication skills programs include:

The Communication Process: Participants will be able to fully appreciate what makes up the entire communication process applicable to team members and leaders that will enhance team and individual performances. Cumulus encourages participants to model their own processes to establish how effective they are and develop strategies to improve them on a practical day-to-day level. They will then be able to apply their processes and obtain instant feedback.

Effective Communication Skills: Within various situations amongst other participants and the general public, participants will be able to identify and hone listening and questioning skills, use positive language and improve their understanding of non-verbal communication. This can be linked to enhancing levels of assertiveness within people and offering them the opportunity to consider other influencing techniques.

Barriers to Communication: In order to make maximum use of the communication process and their communication skills, participants are also encouraged to identify key barriers to communication and develop strategies to reduce their impact or overcome them completely.
