Outdoor Apprentice Development Training Programmes
As well as running graduate development programs and youth team building events; Cumulus Outdoor Events also provides apprentice development programs. These programs use the outdoors a learning and development tool to enable apprentices of various ages to benefit from practical and effective learning events. These can be used for one aspect of their training or can be used over the duration of their apprenticeship, each year offering differing development opportunities.
For first or second year apprentices, we tend to offer programs that reflect their need to meet certain criteria for NVQ awards in certain key skills. Typically this is at levels 2 or 3. Programs focus around team work skills, encouraging the apprentices to learn and improve their performance and communicating with other people. Programs are very active; involve a large amount of time participating in various outdoor team activities and personal challenge experience. These are supported with tutor led reflection and development sessions as well as supported by a basic level of theory.
For senior apprentices, possibly on third or fourth years, the training and the learning experiences vary. Team skills are again developed along with considering the requirements of leadership skills. More emphasis is placed upon planning, work related responsibilities, behaviours and influencing others. Outdoor activities are again used but with a differing emphasis, staged within various business simulations. This helps to add to the experience and enable apprentices to better link the learning gained to their working environments.
Apprentice programs have the added benefit of helping young people make the transition from academic and school life to the responsibilities and behaviours required within an effective workforce.
