Adventure Racing Skills
As well as organising adventure races, Cumulus Outdoor Events runs Adventure Race Skills Training programs and Adventure Race Fitness Training programs. Adventure racing skills development are important to improve your ability on various stages, your confidence levels and therefore your performance levels. Programs aimed at skills development for adventure racing are run by the Cumulus Crew, this program offers 1 and 2 day options aimed at improving the technical skills of clients interested in competing in adventure races. Various programs are offered focusing on key skills and activities at a variety of locations along the south coast. Typical skills will include kayak handling, mountain biking, navigation as well as rope techniques for climbing and abseiling. Programs are initially staged with generic content, but this is adjusted during the program to allow for participants to be able to obtain bespoke training in key areas. Transport and refreshments will be made available. Video feedback will be available as will a general digital recording of the program if participants request.
Not only will participants be able to refine techniques and learn new skills, everyone also has a great time being involved in a variety of activities in various stunning locations.
Programs are adapted depending upon the number of participants, the weather, tides and also what everyone wants to get out of their training. Initially, programs are structures around:
Day One:
AM Navigation (classroom based before heading out onto the hills or forest)
PM Mountain biking skills (also involving some continuation of navigation skills)
Day Two:
AM Kayaking skills (covering basic skills as well as coaching on fast and efficient forward paddling techniques)
PM Ropes skills (involving tying all the knots required, setting up effective and simple safety systems. This may also cover some climbing and abseiling)
Benefits of attending the course include: bespoke skill development, enhanced ability and confidence in key areas, leading to improved race times with participants being able to focus on their speed and performance instead of the skills themselves.
