Bournemouth Teambuilding
'This was an amazing use of the location' Participant: Adido
Cumulus Outdoor Events were asked by Adido to design and stage an entertaining, active, competitive team event for its Bournemouth employees. They wanted a locally based team event that would help to reward their staff members and help to motivate them to work together in an energising and engaging manner. They wanted an event that would:
- Be based from their offices in order to reduce transport costs
- Enable teams to engage with each other
- Help to encourage imaginative solutions and positive brainstorming
- Encourage staff members to use each other to establish and grow ideas
- Develop a sense of camaraderie
- Develop a greater sense of responding to local business needs
- Increase Adido's presence within the local community
In response to the above requirements, we designed a half day event that started at their offices in Bournemouth and finished at a well known local bar. We put together a series of challenges framed around a competitive scoring system that required teams to plan, put together various ideas, think on their feet and engage with the local community. Photos, t-shirts and local press coverage was also used in order to help promote the Adido teams within the local area.
The event was a huge success, scoring 93%in our satiscation survey and produced the following comments from the team members:
- The staff were legends
- Loved the idea that there were so many different types of challenges
- A great event for the team
- Liked the fact that the challenges were original and been designed to stimulate communication
- This was an amazing use of the location
- Great for teambuilding - had no idea what was in store for us!
- It was a perfect event for the day
- The final challenges were the best!
- We learnt to work together as a team and the challenges really bonded us together
- It was fantastic!
- I loved how many different things we had to do and it was great fun trying to find the answers
- It was good having to use our initiative to complete the challenges
The team also put together an article on the event:
'Last Friday saw the team here at Adido show their most competitive sides as we were split down the middle into two rival teams for our teambuilding day. The event was put on by one of our clients, Cumulus Outdoor Events, who specialise in outdoor teambuilding activities. The morning started with a brief from our event leader, Tomo, who had us all laughing from the word go – but ensured we still were listening to his concise instructions. We were split randomly into two teams – Team A and Team 1 for arguments sake with both online marketers being mixed with web developers.
After a ten minute planning period each team set off from our office at Richmond Hill and into Bournemouth town centre where our challengesbegun whilst deciding which out of the numerous challenges to try and complete within the time limit. A popular strategy was to do a smaller number of challenges, but focus on the ones with the highest points which coincidentally proved to be the hardest challenges. These included taking a photo of Old Harry from the highest view point, posing as a mannequin for 5 minutes in a shop window and getting the whole team three feet underground. Some of the challenges were more company and web focused, with a list of questions about company members and history. A favourite challenge was on the beach whilst others involved us running into local shops.
Many of the local businesses helped out both teams with item donations, we’d like to thank: The Early Learning Centre, Field & Trek, Bournemouth Sweet Shop, DJ Radio, Bournemouth Marriott Hotel, Bournemouth Steak House and Blacks.
When five o’clock came around we headed to a well deserved pint in Sixty Million with our fantastic leader Tomo to relax and total up points. Team A won by a record 17,000 points whilst Team 1 scored 10,000. The competitive atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic and it was great to see both teams efforts had paid off. We have not stopped talking in the office about what a great time we had and all the jokes that have come out of it. We recommend anyone looking to improve their teambuilding skills to take a look at Cumulus’ range of challenges.'
