History
If used well, history is great for working out what’s been, what’s happening and what may happen...
Past
Cumulus Outdoor Events was incorporated in November 2009 by John Blair and Russell Thompson. Both Directors had been working in the outdoor industry for a couple of decades. Russell has been working in the outdoor corporate events industry having come from an expedition and training background after spending some time working in sales roles for various large organisations. He resigned as Deputy Centre Manager for an activity centre in order to become more focused on experiential learning and developing other people as well as returning to what he really enjoys doing. John’s experience comes from working all over Europe as an outdoor activity instructor and event manager. He became actively involved in developing several outdoor centres in England and Wales whilst generating a deeper insight into outdoor learning and developing people. John resigned from a position as Chief Executive of an outdoor learning trust in order to spend less time running an organisation and more time working with clients whilst also being able to meet new challenges and to be more creative.
Present
John and Russell now work with a core associate staff team running outdoor corporate events, team building programs and other outdoor training programs. In addition to these services, Cumulus also offer adventure experiences and adventure races. Everyone is having a great time developing events, creating and nurturing new ideas as well as working very closely with clients and program participants. The team is working hard to develop the business and its range of services.
Future
John and Russell have some grand plans. Whilst growing the sales and support team, the operational crew will steadily expand as will the resources they have to work with. The adventure races will expand in to further locations around the UK including more urban racing events. The range of adventure experiences will probably remain the same but there will be more expeditions set up for a growing client base that will be aimed more towards personal development programs for managers. A new fixed location and opeartional base that will also double as a potential venue for some programs will be developed somewhere in Dorset.
